The elevated vineyards of Yangarra delivers a cooler climate expression of McLaren Vale Shiraz. Gernerous blue fruit, floral hints & pepper spice with a minerally earthy complexity, dusty tannins and impressive length. Really delivers at this price.
Tasting Notes for Yangarra Estate Shiraz 2019 from the Winery
Shiraz from our Estate vineyard adopts more of a cooler climate expression than the typical McLaren Vale style thanks to the vineyards elevation and the cooling night breezes from the nearby Southern Lofty, but retains concentration and complexity.
WINEMAKING
Sourced from six blocks within the estate. Approximately 50% on Sand, 50% on Ironstone. Picked between the 21-29 March, destemmed and mechanically sorted. 50% whole berries. We do a portion of our ferments with approximately 20% whole bunches. A splash of Viognier. Cold Soak. Open Fermenters. Plunged. Wild yeast ferment. No pressings are used in this wine. Kept on lees in 20% new French oak, 80% older French oak for 10 months. Bottled March 2019.

95 Points | Huon Hooke The Real Review: Deep, bright red/purple colour. Fresh and clean on the nose, with berries, cherries and spices to sniff. Really lovely aromas and flavours, understated and still evolving. The palate is fine and long with supple tannins and great harmony. A superb glass of shiraz.

This is profoundly exciting, another masterpiece from Peter Fraser, Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year '16. It's not often I'm tempted to sneakily swallow half a mouthful of a wine, it's almost as if an unseen force refuses to let me actually drink a little.
