Floral, rich, full nose with a powerful and resonant aroma. The palate has attractive sweetness followed by fine tannins, great structure and a long and savoury finish. The wine combines fulness and density with precision and is quite stylish too.
This is a TOP CLASS Australian Biodynamic Pinot Noir, complex and powerful, with lovely lingering flavours on the finish.
Tasting Notes for Hochkirch Village Pinot Noir from the Winery
This is 100% estate fruit, 25% whole bunches were retained while the balance of the crop was destemmed. A wild ferment was in small open vats and the juice had about three to four days rest before some gentle foot-stomping and a daily plunge. Everything was pressed after 14 days into tank, and then gravity-fed to small French oak (just 15% new). The wine was racked and assembled after 14 months. The only addition was 50ppm SO2 at bottling.
Hochkirch
Hochkirch Pinots are made in a bold earthy rich Burgundian style, quite different to the light soft red fruit styles often found in New Zealand & Australia.
"The most capricious of varieties, Pinot is however capable of breathtaking magnificence as no other red wine when terroir, season and man meet in the right coincidence. Although these are early days Pinot seems to feel at home in our vineyard with the rigours of a cold southwest Victorian climate." - John Nagorcka

Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
“When I think Hochkirch I think riesling and syrah, then pinot noir, but am often proved wrong by that mentality. Biodynamic farmed. It’s all dark cherry and dried herbs here. Yum. Lush kind of feel with silty tannins and a cool, slightly minty finish, in a pleasing, amaro-like sense. Lots of character, lots of complexity, very savoury. There’s an elemental, savoury thing going on and it feels wholly unique too. Special. Top shelf for the ludicrous price too. It’s a beautiful, unadorned, generous and wispy pinot noir of ease of drinking yet enough detail to keep the pinotphiles very, very interested.”
