This is a ripe rich fruit style wine, full bodied with smooth mouth feel and subtle french oak, which compliments the long dry finish. The wine is a perfect accompaniment for flavoursome meat dishes.
The Story
The wine has been made essentially by hand on a small scale with careful grape selection, "cap" management, extended fermentation and basket pressing.
MICHAEL O'Donohoe made this marvel by hand at Berri. The mulchcovered soil below these vines has not been disturbed for 23 years, and the vineyard was certified organic in 1990. Irrigation is sparse, keeping yields below 2 tonnes/acre, so the glorious flavour is an exponential reversal of all that restriction: intense, healthy, soft, rich, ripe an delicious - the best red I've had from the Riverland. 94 points.
