Tasting Notes from the Winery for Paxton Rose 2020
Paxton 2020 Rosé combines Shiraz & Grenache, grown using the Paxton ‘smart farming’ program that focuses on soil health and biodiversity. The bright fruit characters are those of a healthy vineyard. Winemaker, Richard Freebairn, crafted this wine to be crisp, flavoursome and refreshing. A delicious rosé with pretty rose petal notes and refreshing raspberry aromas.
Serve straight from the fridge for the perfect summer drinking wine.
Viticulturist David Paxton, along with Winemakers Dwayne Cunningham and Kate Goodman have combined their years of experience, and by embracing biodynamic and organic practices (fully certified since 2011), are producing the healthiest of vines. Through the use of natural preparations and composts, the soil and vine are able to find the perfect balance. The end result is exceptionally pure fruit and “Wines with Life”.
VARIETY: Shiraz 53% and Grenache 47%
COLOUR: Ocean Trout with pink salmon hue
AROMA: Fragrant Lift of violets, red cherries and fresh raspberries
PALATE: Bright fruit driven palate with lovely crisp minerality and a creamy texture. Guava and Strawberry flavours linger and give vitality
CELLARING: A fruit driven wine designed for drinking young, although careful cellaring will be rewarded.
VINTAGE: 2020 posed many challenges throughout Australia. Another intense drought year through the growing season was followed by one of the most devastating bushfire seasons this country has ever seen. Fortunately McLaren Vale was largely unaffected by this devastation and the early signs indicate 2020 to be a very special vintage; one to savour. Moderate weather through out the picking season, combined with lower yields allowed the flavours to develop harmoniously and in balance. Varietal expression was excellent with Shiraz and Grenache showing lovely intense flavour without excessive tannin or alcohol. Tempranillo and Graciano are showing lovely plum and pepper characters and will be intriguing to see how they develop after time in oak and bottle.
VINIFICATION: The fruit was hand picked when sugar and flavours reached optimal levels. The grapes were whole bunch and berry pressed without crushing or destemming. The juice was racked and fermented at temperatures between 13-16°C in stainless steel, to encapsulate fruit freshness. The wine was filtered and bottled early in its life to capture the freshness of the varieties.
