Winery/Brand: Richmond Plains
Nose: Dark cherry, chocolate, raspberry and herbal aromas with hints of savoury, chary oak.
Palate: Lots of wild berry flavours including red cherry and boysenberry, with underlying gamey and forrest floor characters and spicy notes. Medium bodied Pinot Noir that has some lovely silky tannins and a bracing finish. Very drinkable.
The Story
Winemaking: The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed and transferred to open fermenters. After a period of cold maceration for 4 days the juice was inoculated for fermentation. Regular hand plunging over 10 days was carried out in the winery. Approximately 70% of the juice was transferred into a mixture of French oak barriques with the remainder being held in tank.
Alcohol: 12.5%
Acidity: 5.5 g/L
Residual sugar: Dry
Richmond Plains Pinot Noir is made in an elegant, appealing style which can be enjoyed when young but will also benefit from a little cellaring allowing it to develop more complex characters.
All Richmond Plains grapes are grown on our own vineyard. Both the growing of our grapes and winemaking are certified organic by BioGro New Zealand.
Vegan: This wine is suitable for Vegan diets.
Silver Medal : 2008 Australia / New Zealand Organic Wine Show.
