The wine is crimson red and offers aromas of plum, cherry and mulberry and violets and forest floor fragrances. A medium bodied wine delivering flavours of plum, all-spice and blueberries and hints of almond kernel. This wine, with its plush soft tannins and bright juicy finish is ready to drink now or enjoy it over the next three years.
The Story
The 2009 vintage saw good rainfall in December which helped maintain healthy canopies that protected the grapes during the late January heat. The grapes from these vineyards enjoyed mild weather conditions as they slowly ripened during February and March. Made with organic winemaking techniques, this wine was fermented with indigenous yeast and minimal intervention from the winemaker.
Yalumba Organic Shiraz is Jane Faulkner's Bargain Bin selection this week in The Age "Apart from producing outstanding wines, family-owned and run Yalumba is committed to clonal diversity, promoting varieties suited to Aussie conditions and environmental issues. For this shiraz, it sources fruit from two South Australian vineyards – Loxton and McLaren Vale – both certified organic for the past 10 years. It is simple yet vibrant, loaded with spice and bright-red fruit. Medium-bodied with plush-ness from ripe tannins, it has plenty of cleansing acidity to cut through meat such as steak or pork chops. Made very much as a drink-now shiraz." Jane Faulkner » The Age Epicure » 13 July 2010
"Another understated, balanced Aussie, this organic wine is a fresh, medium bodied plummy red with a spicy twist and a hint of meatiness. Great served with duck!" -Express Magazine UK
"No I protested, I won't like this, it's probably bland, so an epiphany? You bet, preconceptions dashed, substantial complex aromas over a gorgeously spiced mouthful of tightly integrated fruit and inspiring tannins before a simply splendid finish!" -Case4Claret.com
