This is a lovely spring/summer wine full of flavour and personality. A fruit salad of Rhone varieties make this exotic tropical wine, with lovely texture and some vibrancy. Hints of apple and apricot and overall an easy drinking style.
With careful vineyard management and a light handed approach in the winery, the Blanc showcases the vibrant, fresh and crunchy style the varieties provide in unison.
Tasting Notes for Yangarra Blanc 2022 from the Winery
Blanc is the result of years of research and quarantine of the best white varieties we can find amongst the ancient north-west Mediterranean vine types. The fact that these Châteauneuf varieties have been successfully blended for so many years encouraged us to pursue Châteauneuf’s top whites on our southern coast. The Blanc is produced using the simplest winemaking techniques to showcase the fresh and crunchy style these varieties provide.
2022 Vintage
The 2022 growing season was very favourable with ample winter rain, a mild flowering and fruit set period, and continued rainfall throughout spring that resulted in healthy canopy. The cool ripening period took place between late January and mid-February delayed harvest, though, resulted in yields with good balance between vine vigour and moderate berry size. We were very pleased with the fruit ripeness, intensity, freshness and natural acidity. The Roussanne was picked early to mid harvest (16th March), Grenache Blanc, Picpoul & Bourbelenc mid harvest (31st March) and the Clairette to final grapes to be picked (16th April).
Winemaking
The Grenache Blanc and Roussanne were hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented separately. The Picpoul, Clairette and Bourboulenc were picked together, as their ripeness was very similar, and volumes were small. These varieties are supposedly very susceptible to oxidation, but we find we get better results by not adding sulphur until the completion of primary sugar fermentation. The resulting wine was then matured in those same vessels on lees and stirred monthly for 4 months. Bottled August 2021

Fresh and attractive fruit, in the pear and apple spectrum, with some light, pastry-like notes, too. The palate delivers a smooth, crisp impression with a gently chalky finish. I like the restraint here. A blend of 49% grenache blanc, 18% picpoul, 15% Claudette, 13% roussanne and 5% bourboulenc. Drink now. Screw cap.
