96 POINTS - OUTSTANDING
Produced from the fruit of dry-grown bush vines planted high up in the Estate's elevated vineyards in deep sandy soils. These venerated vines date from 1946 and produce a complex, perfumed and elegant wine with a trademark tannin structure.
Red and purple fruits abound and are framed by the lovely tannins. A rare pleasure to taste fruit from such old vines for a very reasonable price.
Tasting notes from the winery for Yangarra Old Vine Grenache 2022 375mL
Produced from the fruit of bush vines planted in 1946 high on our Estate's deep sandy soils. Our Old Vine Grenache is complex, perfumed and elegant with a trademark tannin structure.
VINTAGE
A favourable growing season, with good winter rains, a mild flowering and fruit set period and continued spring rainfall. Vines showed good balance of shoot vigour and moderate berry size. The ripening period that began late January was very cool, with some welcome rainfall in mid-February. The cold nights and mild sunny days in March slowed sugar accumulation, resulting in excellent fruit ripeness and intensity.
VINEYARD The vineyard is certified Biodynamic with Australian Certified Organic. We have quite a practical approach, with our philosophy focused around healthy and alive soil, which involves no use of synthetic herbicides or fungicides, use of compost and biodynamic preparations, use of sheep in winter to graze under vine, and minimal mechanical soil disruption.
WINEMAKING Sourced exclusively from the 17 hectares of un-irrigated bush vines planted in 1946. Hand-picked, selectively sorted in the winery. 50% whole berries retained. Wild yeast. A very gentle pump over regime during fermentation, often just wetting the cap. Time on skins during maceration varies, the majority is approximately 21 days, with a few extended to 140 days. No pressings used. The wine was matured in a mixture of older French oak puncheons and foudre, ceramic eggs and amphora. Certified Organic/Biodynamic.

96 points - February, 2024 James Halliday - The Weekend Australian
Bush vines planted in 1946 on a deep sandy dune. Hand-picked and sorted, with 50% whole berries for a wild ferment. Perfumed rose petals and wild strawberries, the palate bursts with energy and drive, all in a red spectrum.
92 points - January, 2024 Stuart Knox - The Real Review
Medium intense ruby-red colour with a fragrant nose of crushed raspberry and mountain herbs. Lovely plump red and black fruits sit on entry and glide through the palate. It's light to medium in weight and still youthful with just a hint of herbal undertones. Tannins are well worked to ensure that fruit stays focused and finishes long.
